The body shape changes over time in the course of our life. Weight changes, pregnancies, and of course the natural aging process may result in changing the body contours and making them less distinctly defined. In some areas, bothersome fat pads may accumulate, while in other places, desired volume gets lost. The loss of clear contours often comes with a deteriorating self-confidence and a feeling of being less happy about one’s own body.
At our Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, we offer you the body contouring technique as an innovative method for (re)shaping your body. This method combines liposuction techniques with fat transfer treatment. Annoying fat depots are removed, and the fatty tissue thus obtained is then used to build up volume at another part of the body. The result is a clearly defined and harmoniously shaped silhouette where the muscles as well can once again show their attractive shape.

FAQ on Body Contouring
What is body contouring?
We call the targeted modelling of the body’s silhouette “body contouring”. In doing so, we take a look at the body in its entirety – both the areas with too much volume and those where you wish for a bit more fullness. The aim is to achieve a harmoniously sculpted silhouette in line with your idea of an ideal body shape.
Which body contouring methods are there?
Body contouring is a combination of liposuction and fat transfer treatment. Depending on the aim of the treatment, the body may be shaped by liposuction alone, or we can use the body’s own fat thus obtained in order to bolster up other body regions. So what happens is a shift and redistribution of the body’s own fatty tissue.
For liposuction, we in Nuremberg work with classic liposuction techniques and with ultrasound-assisted liposuction. The latter is a particularly precise process which we can use to shape and contour individual areas in a targeted fashion.
Which are ideal conditions for body contouring?
Body contouring is particularly appropriate for people who already have an athletic body which they want to show off to its best advantage.
For a successful treatment, it is particularly important that you have by and large already reached your ideal weight and are capable of maintaining it well. In body contouring, the body’s outlines are modelled very precisely. Pronounced weight fluctuations could negatively impact the result later on.
How does body contouring take place?
In a personal consultation, you will learn about all details you may want to know about body contouring. The medical specialist who will conduct the treatment will comprehensively discuss with you, which steps will be necessary to achieve your desired result. The treatment will be individually planned for you.
The operation will as a rule call for a stay in our clinic. The first part is the liposuction in which excess fatty tissue will be removed. Next, we will optimise your body contours by means of ultrasound-based liposuction. The last step comprises the fat transfer treatment. The obtained fat cells are processed and used to build up volume in those areas where there is a lack of fullness.
What are the benefits of body contouring?
By means of body contouring, we can reproduce the body’s contours after they have become less clearly discernible. The body is aesthetically shaped and modelled. We are able to reduce or build up volume in a targeted way, always keeping the natural expression of your body silhouette. No foreign materials will be used; only your body’s own fatty tissue.
Which body areas may be treated by body contouring?
In conducting body contouring in Nuremberg, we always consider your body in its entirety. So, on principle, all body regions may be incorporated in a treatment.
Our female patients particularly often desire a reduction of their fatty tissue in the tummy region, along the thighs, or along their upper arms. Maybe you'd also like to slightly tighten your bottom or wish for more volume in your buttocks or your breasts. Our male patients in contrast are looking for a clearly defined trunk and upper body musculature, as well as a well-defined back and shoulders.
Can several body regions be treated at the same time?
It is possible to treat several body regions at the same time, and it often makes sense, e.g. in cases where your own fat tissue is to be removed and can be used for giving more volume to another body zone. When conducting a more comprehensive liposuction, the surgeon may decide to opt for several sessions instead.
When will the final result be visible, and how long will it last?
About 4 months after the body contouring, about 80% of the final result will already be visible. We at Nuremberg will regularly conduct aftercare checks in order to assess the healing progress.
The results of body contouring are as a rule permanent. It is a precondition for a long-lasting treatment result that you continue to pay attention to your healthy lifestyle and that you avoid pronounced fluctuations in your weight.
What do I have to pay attention to after the body contouring?
The aftercare following a body contouring is similar to that after a liposuction. In those areas where the liposuction took place, you will be wearing special compression underwear for about 4–6 weeks. In addition, lymphatic drainage should be performed. About 3 months after the body contouring, the body will again be fully fit.
Does body contouring leave scars?
In those places where the fatty tissue was removed, there will be tiny scars which will only be up to 5mm long. The surgeon will place the incisions preferably in places like the bikini line where they are hardly noticeable.
How safe is body contouring?
Body contouring is a safe method as long as the operation is performed by an experienced surgeon. Of course, as with any operation, there are certain risks. These include post-operative haemorrhage (after-bleeding), infections, or wound healing disorder. Also, there may well be slight temporary side effects such as swelling, reddening, or haematomas after body contouring.
Before your body contouring treatment, we at Nuremberg will inform you in detail about any risks and potential side effects.
